Connecting Nintendo Switch to a Television
Hooking up a Nintendo Switch to a television allows you to enjoy your favorite games on a larger screen. Follow these step-by-step instructions to connect your Nintendo Switch to your TV.
Preparation
Before you begin, ensure you have the following items:
- Nintendo Switch console
- Nintendo Switch dock
- HDMI cable (usually provided with the Nintendo Switch)
- AC adapter (also provided with the Nintendo Switch)
- Television with an available HDMI port
Step 1: Connect the Dock to the Television
Locate the HDMI port on the back of the dock that comes with your Nintendo Switch. Plug one end of the HDMI cable into the HDMI OUT port of the dock.
Step 2: Plug the HDMI Cable into the TV
Take the other end of the HDMI cable and plug it into an available HDMI port on your television. Note the label of the HDMI port you use (e.g., HDMI 1, HDMI 2), as you will need it to select the correct input on your television.
Step 3: Connect the AC Adapter
Connect the Nintendo Switch AC adapter to power by plugging it into a wall outlet. Attach the other end to the USB-C port on the dock marked “AC Adapter”.
Step 4: Place the Nintendo Switch in the Dock
Gently slide your Nintendo Switch console into the dock. Ensure the front of the console faces the same direction as the front of the dock. The connection should be made without forcing the console down.
Step 5: Power on Your Devices
Turn on your television and select the appropriate HDMI input you connected to the dock. You should see the Nintendo Switch logo on screen if everything is correctly connected.
Press the Power button on the top left corner of your Nintendo Switch console to turn it on. If your Switch was already in Sleep Mode when you placed it in the dock, it should automatically wake up and display on your television.
Step 6: Detach Joy-Con Controllers (Optional)
If you would like to play with the Joy-Con controllers detached, simply slide them up and out from the sides of the Nintendo Switch console while it is docked. You can now use them wirelessly.
Troubleshooting Tips
If you encounter any problems, here are some troubleshooting steps:
- Ensure all cables are firmly connected and not loose.
- Double-check that the television is set to the correct HDMI input.
- Make sure that the Nintendo Switch console is properly seated in the dock.
- Reset the AC adapter by unplugging it from both ends, waiting for 30 seconds, and then plugging it back in.
- Check for any visible damage on the cables or connectors and replace if necessary.
- If the console is not displaying on the TV, hold down the Power button on the console for at least 12 seconds to perform a hard reset, then try again.
